We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return

With great sadness and sorrow the National Oil Corporation received the news of the death of HE Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), who passed away yesterday evening, Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in the Nigerian capital Abuja.

The deceased held the position of Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries since August 2016 for a period of six years, during which the organization, in particular, and the global oil industry in general went through several crises, including the instability of the oil market and the decline in oil prices, then the Covid crisis and the resulting economic recession with the greatest loss in global oil demand which exceeded ten million barrels per day. The organization overcame all these obstacles with merit, and the deceased had the most prominent role in leading the organization effectively during these difficult times, especially the unprecedented cooperation with the non-OPEC oil producers, which brought about the needed stability to the oil market and the oil price stability.

The NOC management also commends and highly appreciates Mr. Barkindo’s always supportive stances to the National Oil Corporation and to the state of Libya during his leadership of the organization.

As we extend our sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased and to the brotherly people of Nigeria for the bereaved of Africa and the bereaved of the international oil industry, we ask Almighty God to accept him with the prophets, and martyrs and inspire his family and relatives patience and solace.
