The continued presence of foreign mercenaries and the PFG in Sharara oilfield and their failure to comply with preventative coronavirus measures cause the death of an employee
With great sadness and sorrow, the National Oil Corporation (NOC) received, on Monday August 31, 2020, the news of the death of one of its employees after a confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection as a result of his contact with members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG) and foreign mercenaries who continuously move in and out of the field in violation of the preventive measures put in place by both NOC and the field administration after the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country.
NOC chairman Eng. Mustafa Sanalla said: “On behalf of NOC, I would like to extend my most sincere condolences to his family as well as to his colleagues. I also deeply regret the deterioration of the security situation and, currently, the hygiene conditions at oilfields which have gone out of control. The Akakus and Sharara oilfield administrations were not able to protect the employees from the spread of the pandemic inside the field due to the PFG’s and foreign mercenaries’ disregard for measures to counter the coronavirus. Consequently, we will evacuate the field and completely stop all its operations”.
The relevant departments at Akakus and NOC finalized a plan to impose a two-week quarantine on the employees at the field to ensure they have not been infected with the virus.
