NOC contributes to disaster relief response in Ghat

National Oil Corporation (NOC) and its subsidiaries Mellitah Oil & Gas Co (MOG) and Akakus Oil Operations have mobilized disaster response teams to support emergency relief efforts in Ghat assisting citizens affected by the recent devastating floods.

Akakus’ Sustainable Development Office has already provided two bulldozers to dig new channels and redirect water away from residential areas, while MOG has delivered and distributed a food convoy to the local population.

NOC has contributed to the relief effort, dedicating funds for an additional aid convoy, expected to arrive in the city in the next couple of days. The aid convoy will include a vacuum tanker to drain flood water, as well as essential materials for the local municipal council and Libyan Red Crescent to set up and sustain at least two internally displaced person (IDP) camps catering for approximately 450 IDPs from Ghat and Tahala.

Emergency aid items to be provided include: four generators to fully power the camp with electricity, as well as a large number of tents, sleeping kits and hygiene kits.

Chairman of NOC’s Board of Directors, Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, said: “The flooding in Ghat is a national emergency. May the fallen rest in peace and God grant relief to those who have lost their homes. The corporation is working closely with the municipal council to assess the damage to enable us to contribute to reconstruction efforts. NOC stands with the people of Ghat in this hour of need.”
