NOC Chairman and British Ambassador discuss importance of security provision and NOC independence

The Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Eng. Mustafa Sanalla, welcomed the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Libya, Frank Baker OBE, to NOC’s Tripoli headquarters on January 21, 2019, to discuss the importance and maintenance of NOC independence and current security arrangements in the oilfields. Parties also discussed additional commercial opportunities for British companies in the Libyan oil and gas sector.

Chairman Sanalla highlighted plans to guarantee the safety of NOC employees and infrastructure, including at Sharara: “in order to increase production rates and contribute to national growth, NOC must remain independent and removed from all political or military bargaining. Efforts to politicise our work are not in the interest of the Libyan people. NOC reaffirms its call for the immediate and unconditional restoration of security at Sharara. We reject any type of blackmail and intimidation, as we work to improve the lives of every Libyan.”

Ambassador Baker stressed the need for all national and international stakeholders to stand in unison with NOC and support its mandate and leadership as the primary source of national income. The Ambassador highlighted the ongoing support of NOC and congratulated chairman Sanalla and corporation staff for their financial and societal achievements, in spite of challenging operational conditions.
