NOC history

Driven by our nation’s rich energy heritage, Libya’s NOC, founded in 1970, has consistently upheld its role as the guardian of Libya’s precious energy resources. We have weathered numerous challenges and disruptions, standing as a steadfast and trusted institution, dedicated to our people and their prosperity.

We have worked independently and with a broad range of international partners to ensure people throughout the world have enjoyed access to Libyan oil and gas, and to contribute significantly to our national economy.

Under the leadership of Chairman Farhat Ben Gdara, we’re driving forward our new strategy to increase revenues from diversified energy sources in a sustainable manner.

Over the next five years, the NOC aims to double Libya’s oil output, bolstering oil production to over 2 million barrels per day by 2025. We are also working with new and existing partners to launch significant gas and renewable projects, increasing the proportion of investment into our non-oil and gas businesses.

Libyan Energy Commitment

The oil sector in Libya creates 25% of all jobs and the NOC is the country’s largest employer. But our responsibility to our people goes far beyond the individuals that work at the NOC and its subsidiaries

As part of our commitment to building better communities, we are working with development partners to implement multiple projects which are improving the lives of Libyans.
